SAGE Publishing and Japanese publishers Shinyosha publish first set of translated social science textbooks

June 8, 2016

London, UK. SAGE Publishing, a leading independent and academic publisher, has today announced the translated publication of the first three of the eight volume collection: The Qualitative Research Kit Collection, with Japanese publishers Shinyosha.

Following SAGE’s partnership with Shinyosha to co-publish social science textbooks in the Japanese language, these three titles produced and translated by academics in Japan are the first in the collection to be completed. The aim of the partnership is to address the lack of social science texts available in Japanese, responding to the increasing demand of students and researchers in the region.

Akira Shioura, President of Shinyosha, remarked:

“Partnering with SAGE Publishing to support access to social science research within Japan is a fantastic opportunity, offering us as collaborative partners the chance to widely disseminate core social science research. Today we are thrilled to be able to announce the publication of the first three titles in the collection in a significant step towards completing the collection and allowing us, together with SAGE, to satisfy researchers increasing demand for the subject matter in the region.”

Paul Evans, Managing Director, SAGE Asia Pacific, additionally commented:

“This partnership is incredibly exciting for SAGE as it enables us to better support students within these regions to access key research material by providing it in Japanese. The publication of these first three titles is a great move towards getting this much needed scholarship out there, addressing the needs of students and researchers in Japan. We greatly look forward to continuing this partnership to bring social science research to the communities in their local language.”

The three texts being published are:

  • Doing Interviews, translated by Nochi Masahiro, Tokyo University & Tokuda Haruko, Takachiho University
