August 12, 2016

SAGE Publishing and The American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) today announced the launch of The Journal of VitreoRetinal Diseases (JVRD). The new journal will provide coverage of the rapidly growing universe of retina research.

“This is a very dynamic time in the field of retina,” said ASRS President Tarek Hassan, MD. “Retina research has expanded exponentially around the globe and contributes the most prominent and innovative published research in ophthalmology. As the world’s largest retinal organization, ASRS is perfectly positioned to bring this world-class publication into being along with our partner SAGE Publishing. We are very pleased to have Editor in Chief Donald J. D’Amico, MD, and a stellar editorial board leading the way.”

“It’s a rare privilege to embrace a project of this magnitude and importance,” said Dr. D’Amico, Editor in Chief. “JVRD will provide a compelling venue for the highest quality and most impactful research and clinical information in the field.”

The Journal of VitreoRetinal Disease will focus exclusively on publishing original basic, translational and clinical research papers across the spectrum of vitreoretinal diseases. Submissions will include full-length and brief research articles, clinical trials, case series, review articles (both invited and submitted), correspondence, interviews, and other features to bring the retina community high-quality and trustworthy scientific material. These articles will be rigorously peer-reviewed and submissions are welcome from the global retina community.

The Journal of VitreoRetinal Disease will focus on research that applies the most advanced retina-related diagnostic techniques and treatments,” commented Bob Howard, Vice President of Journals, SAGE Publishing. “We’re pleased to partner with the American Society of Retina Specialists to launch this journal, promoting awareness of an influential and growing sub-specialty of ophthalmology that aims to improve the health of many around the world.”

Editor in Chief Donald J. D’Amico, MD, Professor and Chairman of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, has served as President of both the Retina Society and the Club Jules Gonin.  He has published over 200 scholarly works on vitreoretinal diseases and has co-edited two books covering comprehensive retinal themes.
